[HIKING] CEBU: Osmena Peak (1013+ MASL), highest point in Southern Cebu

It's my birthday today! I will be welcoming my 28th on top of Osmena Peak. My sister woke up early to catch the sunrise on the summit but I guess we traveled early enough for that. Also, its a bit cloudy that morning preventing us to see the sunrise.

Anyway, the fast fog passing by is equally gorgeous! As we arrived in Ocean Bay resort last night and had a late dinner, we asked one of the staff if they know a habal-habal driver that can bring us to Osmena Peak the following day. Luckily, the staff assisted us and the driver will meet us early morning tomorrow. The fee is gonna be P500.00 for the both of us. The staff added that the motorcycle is big enough to battle the zigzag roads and the steep terrain going to the Osmena peak.

THE TRAIL

Some parts of the road leading to the Osmena Peak is still under construction while some are under rehabilitation because of the recent earthquake that hit Bohol which affected Cebu as well. After an hour of motorcycle ride, we arrived at a small village where we need to be guided by a kid. Our guide was 9 years old and can hardly speak Tagalog. So he just guided the path going to the summit. It took us about 20 minutes to reach the peak. The trail was slippery because the soil was covering rocky edges of the slope. Since it is just early morning, the fog moisten the fields. If you are not careful, you will fall on sharp rocks and the vegetable field located in the slopes.

THE SUMMIT

Upon reaching the summit, the fog welcomed us. It cleared up and we saw hundreds of peanut kisses-like formations scattered from every directions. It was one of a kind. :)

It will really help if you have a trusty trekking sandals/shoes going up the peak. Do not bring a lot of unnecessary things. There is no comfort room nearby so if you need to pee do it as a mountaineer style. Remember: Leave no trace! Enjoy the view. Another suggested destination is a traverse to Kawasan falls but we did not do that. We are planning to have it when we come back to Cebu for Canyoneering!
