[LA UNION] GAPUZ Grapes Farm, can't believe there is a vineyard in the Philippines

the byaheras enjoying the vineyards of the Gapuz Family

My family and I planned to visit the Gapuz Grapes farm since last year but we did not get a chance to proceed. Finally, we went!!!

I have been coordinating with the moderator of their Facebook page to get details on getting to the farm and how travelling became my passion and inspiration for my blog. Gapuz Grapes farm promotes the Porch life...

This summer we decided to pushed thru because of the recently opened TPLEX which cuts the travel time to La Union to half.
After almost 5 hours and following Google maps, we arrived at the Bauang, La Union arch. We asked the tricycle driver who was waiting passenger by the road to get directions to get to the farm. After 5 minute drive in some fruit plantations, we notices that there were some backyards with grapes which got us very excited.

The best part of this farm experience is that Gapuz Grapes Farm has no entrance fee. You just for the grapes you pick. Per kilo is at P250.00; a bit pricey but the experience is priceless. Also, they claim that after the grape vines are fully grown, they do not put any extra fertilizer to boost the quantity of the output of each tree.
Their staff will give a scissor and basket. They will also teach you how to cut the stems of the grapes properly. I asked the reason why it is needed. The kuya said that the juice coming from the pulled grapes can attract bees which can sting the whole bunch of grapes more so the entire vineyard.

I will not create a very long paragraph to describe this experience. Enjoy the photos!

Don't ask how many kilos we bought, hehe. We enjoyed the grapes-picking... our trunk almost got full of grapes and seedlings. If you want to pay a visit to the Gapuz grapes farm, grapes-picking is available three times a year. Their Facebook page is always updates when they are ready for grapes-picking. 1. La Union and Acapulco have the same latitude, ca. 16 degrees North. The Spanish grew grapes in Mexico, with vines from Spain, during the times of the galleon trade. This implies a good chance of their trying to do the same thing in the Philippines. Does anyone know if it ever happened?

    1. hi Clinton, thanks for dropping by. I am not sure if the Spaniards brought grape cutting during their expedition. What I know is, the Gapuz family brought cuttings from California to La Union and started the farm.
