[HIKING] CAVITE: Mt. Palay Palay Pico de Loro (664++ MASL), 2nd climb

I have visited PinoyMountaineer.com for pointers and information about the mountains that I am about to climb. Slowly, I invested for gears such as backpack, trekking shoes (is the most expensive of all), headlight, trekking pants, and dri-fit shirts. These gears will also be useful during my travels so might as well give in. :)

Hiking is not easy... However, there was something on me still saying that I can do it. Mt. Palay-Palay, famous to be Mt. Pico de Loro, is well-loved by hikers because of the unique twin summit that adventure seekers can attempt to climb. From the campsite, there is 180-degree view of Nasugbu, Batangas and from a far there is the tadpole-like Corregidor island.

THE LOCATION

In this climb, I came from a graveyard shift and meetup with Apple and Dane at Coastal mall to ride a bus going to Ternate, Cavite which was the suggested route to get to the jump off point to Mt. Palay Palay.

We arrived in the drop-off point at lunch time. There are some eateries in the areas for hikers who are about to start a hike and for those who came from the climb. There are enough comfort rooms and registration area to sign up before starting the trek.

THE TRAIL

Mt. Palay Palay is good for beginners because of the established trail (even though we got lost) and the lush trees gives cool shade to hikers. Also from time to time, the wind softly blows which is very comforting to hikers. Dane enjoyed the crunchy leaves whenever she is stepping on them on the trail as well.

TAKE 5!

beginning to have jelly legs...
pero smile pa rin

I lost count on how many take 5's I took during this climb, hahaha. I felt tired easily because of the heavy load and lack of sleep; not to mention that I also lack exercise. But with good friends, I managed to do it!

THE CAMP SITE

At around 4PM, we reached the camp site. It was crowded. We tried to find a site to pitch our tents and good thing we found the one near the cliff. It was extremely cold but I managed to sleep. We woke up at 5AM to have a quick breakfast and catch the sunrise. One of the amazing scene I cannot forget is how the fog just pass by and the numerous stars in the sky that time.

Going back to the jump off point, we got lost and did not followed the sign going to "DENR". We lost 30 minutes. Well, as they say, getting lost is included in the adventure. We just went back and find the signage and continue with our journey.

THE (ALMOST) SUMMIT and SUNRISE

After breakfast and quick freshen up, we started to to trek and reach the summit for the sunrise. Dane and I did not reach the summit this time. The way to the summit is sand and loose rocks. Even the grass is dried and pretty short to hold on to.
Anyway, from the our point of view, the sunrise is equally breath-taking!
